Our “Save the Date” cards have arrived!
Technologically and green-minded that we are, Leo and I considered only sending emails for the initial nuptial announcement. Alas, some of the older family members will prefer the traditional format, and in truth, probably don’t have an email address. (What? No Facebook account, Grandma?)
So we searched online to find a company that would give us a not-too-ugly design for not too much money. However, if you are more technologically savvy, look for your “Save the Date” in your inbox rather than your mailbox.
Some couples don’t send out these cards anymore, but with our date still more than a year away, it seems prudent to alert scattered family members, many of whom plan vacations far in advance.
Thus begs the inevitable question: Why aren’t you getting married in 2011? True, he proposed in September, and surely we could have selected a fall 2011 date.

But Leo and I have plans for a big trip Down Under. We will be visiting Australia for three to four weeks this September-October. With that on our planning plates (and bank accounts), we decided to push the wedding back to 2012. And before you ask, yes, this could have been our honeymoon. But such large plans and events in our lives rush by too quickly as it is. Leo wants to take a few days off work the week of the wedding, and doing so in addition to Australia’s mammoth vacation request would not fly. Why not savor each event as its own special occasion?
This blog started as a place to feature our wedding, but it’s also going to eventually morph into the adventures of our lives. Since the Australia trip will take place before the Wedding Event, blog posts and pictures of the two will have to share some cyberspace right here. We’re looking forward to sharing both our Big Trip and our Big Day with you.
