When you get right down to it, a wedding is a party.
Throughout this process, Leo and I have focused on having a fabulous party. For us, this means an open bar and some great food.
But the whole time we’ve been saying this, we really haven’t thought about what KIND of food. So here we are, interviewing caterers.
We’re clueless. I mean, really, what kind of food can you serve? You have to appeal to such a broad range of people, that really, you’re going to end up with some beef, some chicken and some not-too-odd vegetables, plus bread, salad and of course, the cake.
Yes, you can go crazy with a carving station, a sushi bar, a crepe bar and more. But we’re sticking to the budget, so let’s stick to the basics.
We’re mostly checking out two local caterers, both of whom have downtown Raleigh offices. We will attend the Catering Works public tasting later this month to get a feel for their fare. Green Planet does not offer a public tasting.
There are pros and cons with both places. Both provided initial menus that sounded yummy and were about the same price. Catering Works also offers other services, such as florals, chairs and the cake. Green Planet composts the leftovers, uses corn-made cups at the bar and is mostly paperless.
So we’ll see. But I will say that one of the two companies keeps insisting on three bartenders. Leo and I prefer two and frankly, don’t want to spend the money on three.
The fact that despite my request, one of the second proposals still included a third bartender left a bad taste in my mouth.
What about your wedding or those you have attended? What was good, bad or ugly about the food?
