Picture a bevy of brides-to-be with their moms, sisters and friends, strolling up and down aisles packed full of vulture-like vendors.
Welcome to the Wedding Show.
Stationers, photographers, DJs, venues, caterers, all crammed into one space and vying for your attention. My sister, Laura, and I visited this two-day extravaganza on Saturday, New Year’s Day. I wanted a few ideas for my wedding. What I got was a bag full of magazines, brochures, two ring pops and a handful of Tootsie Rolls.
I’m not sure wearing the “June” sticker on my chest to indicate my wedding month inspired the proper spirit. But it did inspire the vendors on both sides to attack me like the last morsel of food on earth.
I ignored the photographers: That’s Leo’s job. However, I did speak to a few DJs about the need for Latin music at my reception, and a string trio about costs for the ceremony. Laura and I sampled cake from a few places and entered contests here and there. (Note to brides: Pre-print labels with your name, the groom’s name, your address, phone number, email and the date of the wedding. It will save you a lot of time and some hand cramps from filling out forms.)

I also played Plinko at a tuxedo store’s booth and won and extra $50 off tuxedo rentals for the groomsmen. Sweet.
I wasn’t very impressed with the bridal fashion show, but it did get my brain in the bridal mode. (Dress shopping is on the calendar for this June.) And best of all: Each bride received an organizing binder full of checklists and tips! As we all know, I love to organize! That alone was worth the price of admission.
I’m debating whether to drag Leo back there today. Think he could handle it?
