Leo and Jen: A Blog

A family in Raleigh, NC and random things they do

Colors, Confirmed

Up until now, I had not finalized my wedding colors, although I’d been tossing around some ideas. I knew I wanted the bridesmaids to wear some shade of green, something nature-y.

But this weekend, I figured out what they will wear and what the flowers will look like!

Dresses, Again
Somehow, looking for a wedding dress seemed easier. While shopping for that, Laura and I scanned some bridesmaid looks at David’s Bridal and Savvi Formal Wear. Surprisingly, David’s did not have the right shade of green. And while they offered choices, Savvi’s customer service was less than impressive. So I Googled around to find other places and chose two in Cary to check.

Maid of Honor Ginny and Bridesmaid-Sister Laura joined me in the hunt, which actually took less than an hour! We stood there, sifting through swatches, until we found the color I liked. It’s called “moss.”

The complicated thing about this is that I want each bridesmaid to wear the same length, but different style of dress. But they all have to be the same color, and to do that, I need to choose ONE designer who can offer a variety of styles. The store had several of Jim Heljm’s styles on the rack and more that can be ordered. So I’ll have to gather up my bridesmaids and take a field trip soon!

Flowers, What?
I never think about flowers. I don’t garden (yet). I have never received flowers from someone. (Even Leo. But I tell him not to buy them for me, because they die in a few days and I’d rather have something else for a gift!)

So for me, choosing from among a zillion flowers to figure out bouquets, boutineers and more is like choosing my favorite cloud. Um, what?

The first pair of florists I met with had some ideas, but I was still lost. So Friday, I met with another woman, who guided me through the process. I thought yellow and some shade of purple would look good with the green dresses, and she agreed. So step-by-step, we figured out my bouquet, the bridesmaid bouquets, corsages and all the rest! The only thing we didn’t discuss: centerpieces. Leo says “no flowers,” so we have to go back and do some research.

But that will have to wait until AFTER AUSTRALIA! Only one week left before we leave!
